Wednesday February 7th 2007

5:15 PM- Torchlighting Ceremony - Located at the Little Common, Come join the Queen contestants as they light the torch to kick-off this historic Winter Carnival!

5:30 PM- Sugar River “Shiver ” - The 4 th annual dip into the Sugar River has grown to over 50 participants. Come join or watch these hearty souls plunge into the icy waters. Waivers need to be signed and $7 donation to the Interact Club will get you a authentic “Shiver” T-shirt. NEW LOCATION: COVERED BRIDGE

6:30 PM- 2 nd Annual Mad Winter Carnival Scavenger Hunt- Get your team of (4) together to explore Newport. Many challenges and trinkets to find. Newport History a plus, a car a must. Information at Newport Recreation 863-1332. Meet at the Bandstand at 6:15. Prizes and Winter Carnival Medals!

 

Thursday February 8th, 2007

4:00 PM- Ice Skating Games and Races - Meet at the Newport Common to enjoy creative games by Lilyan Wright. Winter Carnival ribbons, Hot cocoa, and pure fun. Kids Event

6:00 PM- Kids Dodgeball - Kids in Grades 3-8 compete for the Kids Cup. 2 Divisions. Newport REC Center. $10 bucks per team. Sign-up at Coronis Market or Newport Rec.

 

7:00 PM- Queen’s Pageant- Talent Night & 1 st Ever King’s Pageant Join the Queen’s at the Newport Opera House for a fine display of their talent as they vie for the 91 st annual Newport Winter Carnival Queen. See for the first time, the King’s display of talent, grace and coolness.

 

Friday February 9th, 2007

3:00 PM- Kids Broom Hockey Tournament - Located on the Newport Common, get your team on 3 rd – 8 th graders onto the ice for a bit of broom hockey. Hot Cocoa.

5:00- Dodgeball “open” Tournament - Wheeler Gym at Towle School will host the 3 rd annual Dodgeball tournament. Teams of 6 will compete for “grand Champion” status. $20 entry fee. Sign up at Newport Rec or Coronis Market. Open division is for 9 th grade through adult.

7:00- Queens Pageant - The grand daddy of them all, the oldest most prolific event of the carnival at the Opera House. Get your tickets yesterday as they sell out in a heartbeat. Who will be crowned?

7:00 PM-11:00 PM- Casino Night at Newport Moose Lodge - Twin Ridge Mountaineers Snowmobile Club, Inc brings back a great night of gambling and fun. All for a great cause. Brian Tait, Chairperson 863-4735.

10:00-12:00- 12 th annual Midnight Skating - Hot cocoa, Music, and Fire and skating until Midnight on the Newport Common. Kids under 12 need adult supervision.

12:00 Midnight- 2 nd annual Snowshoe Hike to “The Pinnacle ”- Meet at Newport Hockey Rink. Park near High School. Headlamps or flashlights needed. Info at 863-1332.

 

Saturday February 10th, 2007

7:00 AM – 10:00 AM Rotary Pancake Breakfast - Stone Church- All you can eat, Pancakes, Sausage. Great food, even better waitstaff. Adults $5.00 Kids $3.00.

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM Coffee Break at South Congregational Church. Crafts available. Contact Charen Urban, 863-6478

9:00 AM- Sliding Party - Newport Moose Lodge- Bring your sleds and your Helmets to the Moose for a great sliding event. Put on by Women of the Moose. Ribbons.

10:00 AM - Snowshoe Hike in Newport Town Forest. 1 ½ to 2 miles- moderate. Jack and June Liberman. Meet at Newport High School.

10:00 AM- 7:00 PM - Open Skating – Town Common. Free skating, hot cocoa, hot dogs for sale. Hut open all day. Free skate rentals. BBQ.

10:30 AM- Skate-a-thon – Town Common- Come try and break the record. 140 Laps in one hour!

11:00AM- 3:00 PM- .MoonBounce and Extreme Obstacle Course. Inflatables that will knock your socks off. Great Fun for the Kids. Location: Near the Bandstand, Town Common.

11:30 AM- Ski Joring - Parlin Field- Separate Divisions: Open/ Locals/ Beginners. Carla Skinder 542-6065. Also Food Vendors.

12:00 Noon- Annual Winter Carnival Parade - Assemble at 11:00 AM behind Shaws. Chamber of Commerce/ Newport Lions

1:00 PM- Snow Sculpture and Float Judging - All around Town, Register with Chamber at 863-1510

1:00 PM- Photo Judging - Library Arts Center. The Sky Theme. Register with Doris Nelson at 863-3040

1:00 PM- Frozen Open (Golf on Ice )- Meadow Park- Buck or a Button. Bring your favorite Club. Lari Bell 863-7913. Prizes.

1:00 PM- Glutton Bowl “Pie eating” - Bandstand area. Medals to the winners. 863-1332 to register. This is a timed event. Plan to bring a camera and get messy.

1:00 PM- 3:00 PM- Wagon Rides - Bandstand. Wagon rides around the common. Bring the kids for a cool wagon ride. Free. Richard Vincent

3:00 PM- 5:00 PM- Art Gallery Show “The Suns of Newport ”, Library Arts Center. Info Doris Nelson 863-3040-.

5:00 PM- 7:00 PM- Ham and Bean Supper , Newport Senior Center. Good eats for all, with all the fixings. Adults $9.50 Kids $5.00. Joan Willey contact 863-3177.

6:00 PM- Fire vs. Police Basketball Challenge - The annual challenge match pits the 2 Newport Departments into a heated battle on and off the court. Come join us for their antics, comraderie and family fun. The game will be played at Wheeler Gym at Towle School. A buck or a button will get you in the door.

8:00 PM- 12 Midnight- Last Kid Picked , Newport Opera House. Newport’s favorite band is back to play the rock and roll that you love. Tickets $15. Buy em yesterday!

 

Sunday February 11th 2007

9:00 AM- 9 th annual Karr Klassic , High school hockey rink. One of Newport’s finest carnival events. Karr cup up for grabs. Newport (Ice Masters) leads the series with 5 wins to Claremont (Twin Valley All stars) 3 wins. Come spectate. Ed Karr 863-3969.

10:00 AM- 2:00 PM- Food Vendors , High School Hockey rink. Food will be served. Hot Dogs, great eats put on by Newport High class of 2007.

10:00 AM- “Chuck a Puck”, Hockey Rink. During Halftime of the Karr classic you will be invited to toss out a puck for a prize and be selected for the Shootout for Cash. Must Register and Pucks will be provided. Ed Karr 863-3969.

10:00 AM- 7:00 PM- Open Skating , Town Common. Skating hut is open all day, Hot cocoa

10:30 AM- Ski Joring , Parlin Field. Come by for the Finals. Vendors with food. Carla Skinder 542-6065

11:00 AM Disc Golf Tournament, , High School. $1 or a button. 18 holes Snowshoes optional, but probable depending on weather. James Beaulieu High School 863-2414. Bring your own Frisbee. Check out the new professional course! Prizes!

1:00 PM- Ski Jumping , Newport High School. High Flyers. Ron Beaudet. Great Spectator event.

3:00PM- 4:00 PM- Music at Library Arts Center - Gary Sredzienski- Accordionist.

7:00 PM- Carnival Finale Fireworks , Parlin Field. Fantastic Finish to a great Carnival. Betty Maiola coordinates.
